As you drive into the Jewish Quarter parking lot, take a look to your right. Follow the ramp down to the main play area of the Jewish Quarter, Gan HaTekuma. The basketball and soccer areas were donated by none other than the famous actor Kirk Douglas. The ping pong tables were placed in memory of Gadi Gunders z"l, a neighbor who died in a plane crash in Thailand. And the playgrounds were built by the municipality. But like everything else in our neighborhood, alongside the new there is an ancient layer. The remains to the left of the soccer area are of the Nea church, once the largest church in the Middle East, built by Emperor Justinian. More remains are visible after the playground. Go down the stairs by the Old city walls and take a peek. If you have vertigo, please hold onto the railings! There is an opinion that the area by the soccer field was the original location of the Ramban synagogue. Above the ping pong area, up the stairs are ruins from the Crusader period.
