Hurva Update PDF Print E-mail

Chanukah time 5768 (2007), the frame of the Hurva was completed when the cement dome of the structure was poured. And finally, in Shvat 5770(February 2010), the caravans belonging to the building crew were finally been removed. The rebuilt Hurva stands in its entirety, ready for the Rosh Chodesh Nissan dedication.

On March 7, 2010 the crane which stood for over 4 years int he main square was dismantled and on the 8th, the gates which cordoned off the main square to the reisdents for too long, were removed.

It has been a difficult time for the residents, having had to endure years of noise, clutter and an expropriated Hurva Square, but seeing the Hurva rebuilt has been worth the wait. The dedication will be the week of March 14th, with two days of celebration (one for the ever patient residents, another for the VIP's!) and much fanfare.

Now may we merit the rebuilding of THE more important building across the valley!

For pictures of the reconstruction as well as information on the project, go to the Jewish Quarter Development Company website at http://www.jewish-quarter.org.il/churva.asp Another site with excellent pictures from the dedication as well as a history of the Hurva is http://www.jr.co.il/pictures/israel/things/hurva-synagogue.htm
