The War of Independence PDF Print E-mail
On the corner of HaYehudim and Lochamei Ta'Shach Streets, you will find a small room with a map with flashing lights which shows the paths of the battles which were fought in the Jewish Quarter. Down the stairs, under the arch which is part of the ancient Cardo are the names of those who fell during these battles. This is a commemoration of the struggle of the residents of the area who fought and fell in the Old City during the War of Independence. In all, 68 people, 39 fighters and 29 residents fell. FYI, the street name, Lochamei Ta'Shach translates as "the fighters of 1948".
