The Israelite Tower PDF Print E-mail
In our neighborhood, history is much more than a lesson . It is literally the foundation upon which our modern day life exists. Proof of this, as if you really need it, is the Israelite Tower. The Achinoam girls school is built on top of this site which is a fortification from the First and Second Temple periods. Babylonian and Israelite arrowheads were found here amidst a thick layer of ashes at the foot of the wall, bearing evidence of war and destruction. This is the location of the battle which took place on the 17th of Tammuz when the walls of Jerusalem were breached. It is located on Plugat HaKotel Street between the Broad Wall and the Emunah Day Care Center. There are over 50 stairs so this is not recommended for baby carriages and or anyone with difficulty walking. It is open only by appointment. Call the Jewish Quarter Development Company at 628-8141.
