Continue along Misgav Ladach Street and you will find the streets' namesake, the site of the first Jewish medical institution in Jerusalem. In 1854, the Rothschild Hospital was opened here. In 1888 it was transferred to the New City and the building was purchased by the Bikur Holim Misgav Ladach Company which was owned by members of Jerusalem's Sephardic community. The building also included a synagogue and library. In 1948 it was the only Jewish hospital operating within the Jewish Quarter and remained until the evacuation at which point it was destroyed by the Arab Legions. Today it houses a dormitory for the Sephardic Center.
